South West Peninsula League Premier Division East: Honiton Town 2-1 Torridgeside
Honiton did it the hard way after playing for much of the game with ten men but they are now unbeaten in three matches and have won their last three consecutive home games.
After a cagey opening in which neither team could get control, went a man short when Joe Chamberlain was sin-binned for a spell.
Despite the deficiency, it was the home side who took the lead, Jordan Harris releasing Tom Perryman down the right who then whipped an audacious strike over the goalkeeper into the far corner.
Soon afterwards Chamberlain, who had only just returned to the field, was promptly shown a red card when he retaliated following a foul.
The Hippos increased their lead in the second half. Aaron Pearse pressurised the visiting goalkeeper following a Miles Barron through ball and when the clearance was ineffective, Harris knocked a great strike in from thirty metres out.
Torridgeside did grab a consolation goal with a shot from distance but Honiton then stood strong to secure the three points.
Honiton’s Man of the Match Award went to Chris Long.
Axminster Town 1 Bishops Lydeard 2
Axminster are back on the bottom of the table after losing 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers Taunton based Bishops Lydeard.
The Tigers enjoyed their best spells of the game during the first half and in the closing stages when they came close to taking something from the game.
There were chances for both sides in a generally even first half with both goalkeepers saving well with their legs and the visitors having a strong penalty appeal turned down.
The deadlock was broken right on half time as the Axminster defence failed to clear a corner and the ball fell kindly for Mark Jones who rifled his shot into the roof of the net.
The visitors looked by far the most workmanlike during the second period and created by far the better of the goal scoring opportunities.
A second goal looked inevitable and that arrived midway through the half when Toby Gibson and James Cottrill were instrumental in setting up the chance for Ollie Rayson.
Jammie Barfoot did pull a goal back for Axminster in stoppage time but despite a late rally they were unable to level the scores.
Axminster’s Man of the Match Award went to defender Josh Short.
