It took two late second half goals to secure the points as Sidmouth Town beat bottom side Bishops Lydeard 2-1 to keep in touch with the Peninsula League East leaders.

The Man of the Match Award went to Ollie Jarrett who returned to the squad after a long lay-off and came on to score the second and winning goal.

The visitors rocked The Vikings by taking the lead on 34 minutes when Anthony Collins netted with a class finish.

Despite plenty of attacking moves and a number of substitutions it was not until the 75th minute that Sidmouth got on level terms.

Corey Rogers set up the chance and when Craig Veal eventually got free from a defender he finished clinically.

With Bishops Lydeard still trying to re-organise, Sidmouth struck again almost immediately with Veal feeding Luka Nickles whose clever back-heel was fired in by Jarrett.

Meanwhile Honiton Town, with a number of key players missing, took an early lead at second-placed Okehampton Argyle but were finally beaten 4-1.

With only five minutes on the clock, a through ball from Jordan Harris released Joe Chamberlain who rounded the goalkeeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.

Argyle hit back within five minutes although there were strenuous calls for offside as Josh Coles went through to make it 1-1.

Luke Mortimer made it 2-1 to the home side soon afterwards before a moment of brilliance effectively put the game beyond Honiton’s reach.

Hippos’ goalkeeper Scott Wells-Burr came off his line to clear a through ball up to the halfway line only for Okehampton’s Luke Reynolds to hammer a half volley back over his head from forty-five yards out.

Honiton toiled in the second half but there were chances for both teams until Luke Alden made it 4-1from close range after Wells-Burr had done well to save the initial strike.

This Saturday (October 9th) Honiton Town are home to Torrington while Sidmouth Town entertain Torridgeside. Axminster Town are back in action with the visit of Stoke Gabriel/Torbay Police. All matches kick off at 3.00 p.m.
