Sidmouth Tennis Club's finals were delayed by four hours of rain.

The event, which took place last Sunday, was organised by head coach Sue Wiltshire and chair of tennis Chrissie Hounslow.

The culmination of a summer of competition appeared to be under threat due to the weather.

However, the rain eventually stopped, allowing players to compete in the late afternoon.

The event saw several winners, including An Van Hecke and Marlene Maynard in the Ladies' Doubles, Paul Mitchell and Pat Thompson in the Rusties' category, Greg Shipp and Rob Chatwin in the Men’s Doubles, and Viv Bess with Bob Hefill in the Mixed Doubles.

Junior titles went to Elise, Sam, James, Reece, and Felix.

Michael Slattery was awarded the Gordon Blenkinsop Trophy.

After the main events, a fun Triples match was held, with Rob, Sam, and Felix taking the honours.

The day ended on a high note, with the weather eventually cooperating, allowing for a successful tournament.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to all participants and winners, as well as to Sue Wiltshire and Chrissie Hounslow for their perseverance.

The tournament was finally completed under unexpectedly clear skies.
