A game that survival enthusiasts, the Chiefs, should have won was handed over owing to a penalty from the touchline during injury time.
A fantastic display of athleticism by Sam Heathcote opened the scoring for the Chiefs.
His brilliant chase of a kick ahead down the right, coupled with skilful ball gathering and evasion of two defenders, noted him scoring a try under the posts.
Jake Smith, his comrade in arms, added the conversion which further surged their lead.
The Chiefs didn't slow down.
Rory O’Brien capitalised on a turnover near halfway enabling him space on the left.
He outpaced the defenders and scored in the corner.
Ivybridge only managed to make their entry into the scorecard when the Chiefs lost their own 22 lineout and two forwards came together for a wide-out try.
A costly decision to forego a front-of-the-post penalty and opt for a tap penalty that fell flat saw the Chiefs lose their opportunity to bolster their lead.
For the first half, however, they still managed to lead 12-5.
Ivybridge levelled the score two minutes after the half when their scrum half won the grubber kick chase into the 22 and touched down.
In retaliation, Sam Heathcote and Jake Smith manoeuvred swiftly.
Heathcote won the chase for a high kick into the opposing 22, gathered and raced it in under the posts.
Smith added his touch with a conversion and soon after, shot a penalty to heighten the Chiefs' lead.
The next 10 minutes saw Ivybridge dissolving the Chiefs 31-22 lead with an onslaught of three unanswered tries.
The tight head prop scored twice from moves around lineouts close to the line.
The third try was a result of a good 22-handling move.
With two conversions, Ivybridge came out on top.
The Chiefs, counter-attacked with Jake Smith leading the way; converting a penalty and a bonus point try scored by Tom Hodge.
After a promising show, Ivybridge claimed victory with an injury-time penalty.
The Chiefs are set to play against Marlborough on Saturday at 3pm.
The Ladies Valkyries will play their first home game against Chedder Vally Ladies, on Sunday, also kicking off at 3pm.
The Quins, too, are preparing to challenge Teignmouth 2nds.
