The Sidmouth Bowls Club had a roller-coaster weekend.
The Ladies' team snatched a victory and the Men's teams rounded off their seasons.
Last Saturday marked the opening of the Devon Ladies County Finals featuring Sidmouth's Terrific Trio.
Supporters from Sidmouth travelled to see their matches in Ottery St Mary.
The semi-final round saw Sidmouth trailing with a daunting 10-2 against a team from Bovey Tracey.
The Trio, however, displayed resilience and mounted a comeback, scoring 4 shots and reducing the deficit to 10-6.
The 13th end brought an exhilarating turn of events as the Sidmouth Ladies scored a rare Hotshot, meaning all their woods counted.
This spectacular feat catapulted them to a leading position of 12-10.
The match then veered into tense territory, leaving scores tied at various points.
However, with a nail-biting finish, the team clinched a victory with a close margin of 14-13, replicating the exact score from the quarterfinals.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t replicate the triumph in the final round against a Plymouth team and had to settle for the runners-up position.
Sidmouth's bowls action continued into Sunday, hosting a Touring Team from the Royal Household despite the inclement weather.
Reducing the contest into two competitive sessions, resulted in Sidmouth edging out the prestigious guests with a slim victory of 52-47.
The Royal Household acknowledged Sidmouth's remarkable hospitality and enjoyed a cordial session.
Sidmouth's involvement in the Men's Exeter and District Over 60's Triples League concluded this weekend.
The club fared with mixed results among its four teams across different divisions.
The Sharks and the Sunrise occupy 3rd place in Division 2 and mid-table in Division 3 respectively.
The Starfish's unfortunate season saw them relegation from Division 7, narrowly avoided by the Snappers.
Rainfall caused numerous disruptions, including the cancellation of friendlies against Phear Park and Ottery St.Mary and Ladies Devon County's second finals day rescheduled for May 10, 2025.
Looking ahead, Sidmouth Bowls Club will host its Annual Open Day on Saturday, September 21.
Prospective bowlers are welcome from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
The club's experienced coaches will give beginners a guided introduction, inclusive of bowls.
All you'll need are clean, soft-soled shoes.
