Sidmouth carried their recent good league form into this prestigious cup competition with a win over Peninsula League rivals Torrington.
The home side got in front just before the break when a Corey Rogers effort was saved by the visiting goalkeeper and Nathan Cooper followed up to score.
It was all square though right after the re-start when the visitors’ frontman Luke Kerswell was given far too much space to finish from the edge of the box.
As the home side got on top, two goals either side of the hour mark settled the tie.
First Louis Jagger Cane made it 2-1 after good work by Alfie Down and Cooper before Jack Drew-Cull added a third goal with assistance from Ryan Gilpin and Louis Spalding.
Commented Sidmouth manager, Billy Rouse, “In this competition you’ve only got one shot and I’m delighted that we’re through to the next round.”
In the 2nd Qualifying Round of the competition on September 21st, Sidmouth have been drawn away to Wellington who play in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.
This Saturday, Sidmouth get back into league action with the visit of Middlezoy Rovers to Manstone Lane.
