The Ottery St Mary team triumphed in the annual Redfern Trophy, despite an abrupt withdrawal from one of the visiting teams.
In late July, a team from Brixham St Mary had travelled to Ottery for a competitive match, resulting in a close defeat with a difference of only three shots.
However, the Ottery team consisting of Gail Hawke, Bryan Salter, Emma Bradshaw-Smith and Charlie Griffin carried their club's fame on July 27 by clinching the coveted Redfern Trophy.
Mr Lee Maddicks, director of Redfern’s Estate Agents, presented the trophy to the winners.
The green at Ottery attracted compliments from the guests, with it holding a reputation of being good for hosting County matches.
Furthermore, the Devon Ladies selected it for a friendly match against a team from the East Devon Area.
The High Tea afterwards, served up by Sharon Kenny and her catering team, was warmly received by all participants.
During the Redfern Trophy, teams from Chardstock, Budleigh, Sidmouth and Lyme Regis, pitched their skills against each other.
Unfortunately, a team who had committed to join pulled out at short notice, leading to a lot of problems for the organisers.
Despite the setback, the event proceeded successfully, with each team playing each other in a round-robin format and the combined score determining the winners.
The visiting captain praised the event stating that it was greatly looked forward to by his club members.
He added that this is an event that is greatly looked forward to by his club members and there is always a surfeit of members wanting to play.
The quality of the green and the high tea, served by the team under Carol Bennett's guidance, indeed added to the enjoyment of the afternoon.
In other news, Ottery's proud bowling streak continued as Brian Hammond, Grant Hawes and Carl Gilleard clinched yet another trophy - the Victory Cup, in an invitational match arranged by Budleigh Salterton Bowling Club.
The proficient team secured the cup comfortably, with only four shots scored against them.
These accomplishments indeed mark a successful phase for Ottery St Mary Bowling Club.
