Sidmouth ladies' bowling team are celebrating after winning the Section Benevolent Triples at a nail-biting match, watched by an enthusiastic crowd.

The win secures them a place in the upcoming Devon quarter-final against an as-yet-unnamed team from Section 4.

The game kept supporters on the edge of their seats.

Lead player Jane saved the 16th end with a second wood after being several shots down, taking the score from 13-11 to 13-12.

But the following end saw Sidmouth lose another shot, drawing the score even at 13 all.

After that, Karen and Sue played faultlessly, noting their final round displays of determination.

Despite Honiton's Sue having three woods to bowl, the Sidmouth ladies managed to keep one shot for the match.

It was a thrilling end to the game.

They are now in the Devon quarter-final, which will be on their green.

Sidmouth also saw success in a home game against Axminster, with an overall win of 63-61.

Four triple rinks were played, with a win from Chris Radburn, Lucy Parsons, and skip Wilf Radburn tipping the score in Sidmouth's favour by 21 shots to 12.

Three ladies' triples then headed to play at Honiton, where they lost overall by 38 to Honiton's 50.

Despite this, it was a successful day for Sidmouth with one winning triple, comprised of Lucy Parsons, Liz Boyle, and skip Anita Mason, with a score of 16-14.

"The Sidmouth trio, Scott Archer, Allan Davis, and skip Alun Brown, having won our Section final of the Mens County Major Triples, went off to South Molton to play a team from Section 4 Topsham BC.

Unfortunately, they faced stern opposition and lost, but were congratulated for making it this far in the competition.

Meanwhile, entries for the open Singles Championship have been received, with 24 from the men and just 5 from the ladies.

The semi-finalists include two women, Jane Painter and Sue Turner, and two men, Scott Archer and Andrew Lowe.

All eyes are now set on the Devon quarter-final, with great anticipation for the Sidmouth ladies' team.

Their recent streak of wins lends the air of an exciting event due to unfold.
