A competitive week for Sidmouth Bowling Club as the men's team competed in the Jubilee Cup against clubs in Devon.
Sidmouth men narrowly missed retaining their Jubilee Cup last week, with Ottery St. Mary eventually claiming victory.
The Sidmouth team, which included Brian Deam, Dougie Rowlinson, David Cockburn and skip Mick Cox, gave a commendable performance, ranking a close second with a score of plus 25.2.
Meanwhile, Ottery's victory was by a razor margin, their final score being plus 26.
The Jubilee Cup, similar to the ladies Spears Trophy, involved invited teams from six other clubs, namely Seaton, Ottery St. Mary, Budleigh Salterton, Lyme Regis, Belmont (Exeter) and Feniton.
However, Feniton's absence meant that each of the six teams had to take turns sitting out after every four ends.
Despite this setback, the event proceeded smoothly.
The weather was favourable for the players, with the following day's club Victory Bowl semi-final having to be cancelled due to all-day rain.
The delicious halftime tea, organised and served by Janet, Drew, Debbie, and Lynn, fueled the players, as did the bar operated by Annie and Julie.
While Sidmouth men didn't triumph this time, the women's team too faced a setback when the triples team of Karen Hollingdale, Sue Turner, and Jane Painter lost to the Bideford team.
Consequently, they will not be participating in Leamington this year.
Despite this, their performance was lauded as they managed to make it this far and still have the Benevolent Triples final to play.
Similarly, Sue Turner, after showcasing excellent gameplay in the Ladies County over 55 Singles, lost the section semi-final to Chrissie Leedham from Seaton.
Leedham will now face Sue Evans from Honiton in the final match.
