Set to bowl their way into the quarter-finals, Ottery St Mary Bowling Club's men's team take down Sidmouth in a thrilling match.
In the regional final of the Men’s Top Club Team competition, the game, which was held on June 11, proved a challenging one for the lads, with victories in the 4 wood singles and Triples match.
However, the dramatic turning point came when the team of Terry House, Tony Luff, Dave Brown, and Ray Luscombe, with four ends to play, overcame their 13-7 score difference.
The four pulled off a stunning end of 5 shots, tipping the scale and securing Ottery's overall win by 3 rinks to 2.
Their next hurdle awaits in the form of an out-of-area match against a team from the Plymouth area in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Supporters are hoping for another round of success.
In the meantime, the ladies of Ottery St Mary Bowling Club have also been making waves.
Proving their prowess in an inter-section County match, Sharon Kenny stood as part of the highest-scoring rink.
Additionally, Gail Hawke earned the hotshot for her rink, a term that celebrates the instance when all a team's bowls score - definitely not a common occurrence!
Before the ladies' match, Eileen Burston was rewarded with her County Badge and her peers congratulated her heartily.
However, not all matches lean in Ottery's favour.
An encounter with Bovey Tracey, as they visited Strawberry Lane over the weekend, saw Ottery secure two rinks yet lose the match by 58 shots to 65.
Nevertheless, the club maintains that it's not all about winning - the camaraderie, mirth and sportsmanship manifested on the green outshine the results.
With half a season still to go, the club anticipates more closely-fought matches.
Newcomers are always welcome to join in on club nights every Friday at 6pm.
The club takes pride in the strong coaching offered to potential players, which is gradually manifesting itself through consistently good results.
