Sidmouth Bowling Club hosted the Ladies County Benevolent Triples Competition last week.
With luck, it turned out to be a fine day, weather wise.
Just as well, as some 20 teams of triples started play at 10am, three of the entries being Sidmouth ladies.
One Sidmouth team lost in the first round, another managed to win the first round, only to lose against a strong Madeira team in the second round.
However, our third team of Karen Hollingdale, Sue Turner and skip Jane Painter did very well on the first day, which sent them through to the second day.
They then won two games on that day, which puts them through to our Section final.
This will be played against three of Honiton's best; Yvonne Rayner, Carol Binmore and Sue Evans.
We wish them the very best and they will play on our green, on Friday, July 26 at 10 am.
Supporters are welcome.
Then came the Section 3 Final of the Devon Men's TopClub, Sidmouth against Ottery St. Mary.
Ottery came with more than a dozen supporters.
Sadly, there were very few of us supporting our team on home ground.
Andrew Lowe had a good win in the 2 wood, as did the pairs of Roger Stewart and Mike Borst.
Ken Wheeler playing the 4 wood just missed out by a couple of shots.
The triples of Scott Archer, Allan Davis and Brian Smith, struggled to keep shots, but then started to pull up, but ran out of time.
Now once again, two disciplines for and two against.
So now we're relying on Brian Deam, John Richards, John Mason and David Timms, the rink (4's), to save the day.
The rink they were playing on looked rather tricky, but they were doing really well being in the lead for most of the game.
Then disaster struck and the last few ends of the game, they lost 5 shots, and then a few more.
Now they are going into the final 18th end, one shot down.
Sadly, they lost a couple of more shots.
It was such a shame, as they had all played so well in their previous games.
After playing three very successful rounds to reach Section 3 final of the County Men's Unbadged Triples, our team of Keith Pollitt, Allan Davis and skip Alun Brown, didn't do quite as well.
Although it was a very low scoring game, only a total of 21 shots in 18 ends, they lost.
As in every competition, the further you go, the more difficult it's likely to be.
However, both Allan and Alun along with Scott, won our section in the Major Triples.
So later in this month they will go to South Molton to play a trio from another section.
We wish them good luck for then.
Just one Touring Team this week.
They were from Bromley in Kent.
So far, our largest tour with 11 playing rinks and several visitors.
They were here for a few days, staying at one of our seafront hotels.
Their comments on both food and service were "impeccable".
Ours was their second game, the day before they were rained off due to the torrential rain.
We were all keeping our fingers crossed for a better day for them.
Although it was overcast, thankfully nobody got wet.
It was a very busy day, especially for the teas and the bar, with 44 of their players and 44 of ours playing against them.
They thought our club facilities were great and despite losing, they had a good day and walked back to their hotel very content.
Of the 11 playing rinks, Sidmouth won on 7, lost on 3 and drew on 1.
The overall score being, Sidmouth 178 Bromley 164.
Our top rink was Liz Boyle, Peter Bloomfield, Debbie Robertson and skip Brian Smith, 27 - 12.
