Sidmouth Running Club (SRC) members finished an exhilarating June with highlights including ultra-marathon, scenic runs, and marathons in Tromsø, Norway.

Whilst some Mighty Greens were at JMS Training’s strength and conditioning class run leader Yasmin Salter represented SRC at the Exeter River Run on Friday evening.

Although the stunning scenery offered pleasant competition surroundings, Salter was focused on her performance, completing the course in 51.14.

Meanwhile, 17 SRC members, known as the Mighty Greens, took part in park runs across eight different locations including London, Winchester, Devizes, Frogmary Green Farm, Victoria Dock, Seaton, Exmouth and Cranbrook.

The most notable performance was David Skinner's 278th park run, setting a new record for the Mighty Greens.

Falling on the same weekend, the Exe Estuary half marathon saw five Mighty Greens participating.

Despite dealing with a challenging hilly course, hot conditions and a vital wrong turn, Mighty Green Louise Dalton managed a commendable 11th-position finish out of a group of 103 participants.

Other notable performances included Becky Knapman with 2 hours 30 minutes 43 seconds, with Sarah Watkins, Carol Hounsell and Clare Luke all finishing slightly over the 3-hour mark.

The month’s crowning moment occurred when Mighty Greens members, Chris McCormick, Neville and Kay Hylton participated in a marathon in Tromsø, Norway.

The event, held in the Arctic capital of Norway, was a unique experience as the race started in the later hours of the evening with consistent sunlight throughout.

Neville Hylton said that there wasn’t any ice or polar bears but the race lived up to its name, with blinding sunlight and blue sky throughout the night.

He thought it was bizarre waiting to run a marathon so late.

In yet another accomplishment for SRC, member Lynda Hawkins ran her first ultra-marathon with her daughter Kaylee, selecting the challenging GB Ultra Wales.

Lynda defined the 52-mile race as extreme, brutal, insane and beautiful, which included tackling the mountain and trail race up Cadair Idris Penygader (893m) and the Queen of the Rhinogs' Rhinog Fach (712m).

June delivered various notable achievements for SRC members, a testament to the club's strength and commitment.
