Sidmouth Running Club (SRC) were out in full force at the Woodland Relays, with a whopping 14 teams participating in the event.

The event, held last Wednesday, was organised by Exmouth Harriers.

Woodland Relays took place at the scenic Budleigh Salterton cricket club and saw the involvement of various clubs including Honiton RC, Axe Valley Runners and Exmouth Harriers, besides SRC.

Competing teams comprised both juniors and seniors, who ran along a two-mile loop course along the spectacular wetlands by the river Otter.

The sun-kissed event buzzed with camaraderie and spirited competition as friends, family and fellow runners cheered the participants at the changeover points.

For many SRC runners, juniors and adults alike, this was their debut at an event wearing the esteemed Mighty Green.

An exceptional display of team spirit was seen when 11-year-old Jude Carson, Emily Smith and 8-year-old Amelia Womersley-Westlake volunteered to run twice rather than seeing their team lose out due to the absence of three juniors.

Jude's dedication, in particular, was impressive as he maintained a consistent pace throughout his back-to-back laps.

Club member Mark Norton deserves noteworthy mention.

Despite lacking a team, he supported the event by running alongside the juniors throughout all three laps of the relay.

On the other hand, Yasmin Salter led her team with pride, only to experience a memorable moment when junior Samuel Crompton outpaced her near the finish line.

Following the event, participants, supporters and organisers gathered at the clubhouse for the prize-giving ceremony and refreshments.

The session provided a great platform for everyone to socialise and share the day's experiences.

Alongside the buzz at Woodland Relays, five SRC members enjoyed a pleasant evening on the same day competing at the Umborne Ug, a picturesque 10k multi-terrain event at Umborne, near Colyton.

The event is jointly hosted by Axe Valley Runners and local villagers for fundraising purposes, directed towards Umborne Hall.

The race was challenging but was made enjoyable by the unique friendliness and laid-back feel.

Ms Farnham said: "It's a very friendly and low-key event and we were spurred on by the thought of the delicious cakes and BBQ awaiting us after the run".

The results were: Roger 61:10; Mark 61:29; Christine 67:28; Karen 69:04; Gerturde 77:29.

The thrilling participation and results have indeed been a testament to the extraordinary spirit and determination displayed by the SRC athletes.
