Sidbury snatched a crucial victory from table-toppers Exeter IIIs, leaving just one point dividing the two rivals.
The season-defining match was held on the beautiful grounds of Winslade Manor, where the changing rooms were packed and the weather was blazing hot.
The home team, Exeter, took the advantage of playing first after winning the toss, but it came with the disadvantage of facing seasoned Sidbury opener, Simon Rowe.
Despite Brazilian international player Laura Cardoso's remarkable eight-over spell and Sangeeth Sohan's precise bowling, Rowe managed a score in the forties - his third consecutive feat.
His dismissal came only after a half-time drink break as he forgot the age-old adage about the high chance of a batsman getting out on the first ball after beverages.
By mid-game, the score stood at a hopeful 108-4 thanks to the collective efforts of Paget Brothers Inc.
The brothers were still recovering from a six overthrow blow they had allowed Upottery in their previous match.
Meanwhile, additional problems piled up on chairman Chris Fitzhenry’s desk, across the likes of in-form batsman Josh Reed’s dismissal after a gamely run to the international blocker at the backward point.
Despite the setbacks, Exeter spent the last 18 overs in futile shots under the scorching sun.
The Paget Brothers, Oliver and Alex, posted a hefty 90* and 56 respectively, lifting the final tally to 252 for the visitors.
With a challenging target set, the Exeter team pulled up their socks, devouring Soren Hall's opening spell like an energetic cricketer at a freebie tea stand.
Richard Golsworthy contributed significantly, smacking six fours and two sixes to keep Exeter ahead in the game.
However, despite the initial tension, Alex Paget's strategic move and Rowe's exceptional bowling performance turned the tides in Sidbury’s favour.
First change Rowe quickly dismissed five of Exeter's top six (5-24), aided by Hall's low but effective catch in the covers.
The tail-end was finally mopped up by club mascot Sam Sanders (3-10), with a neat spell from league debutant Archie Rowe at the other end.
Exeter could only add a fourth batting point to their score before they were completely out at 163.
Proud of their comeback performance, Sidbury now stands just one point shy from the league leaders Exeter, their sails catching the favourable winds.
Sidbury's display of determination and team play is a strong message to all competitors and a signal for a thrilling season finale ahead.
