A thrilling bowling match took place last Saturday, with Sidmouth narrowly edging out rival team Page Park from Bristol, finishing with a score of 174 to 171.
This showdown involved ten rinks, five of which Sidmouth emerged victoriously from, and also five in which the opponents conquered.
The game was an enjoyable event for spectators.
The buzz in Sidmouth revolved not only around the intense face-off but also the infectious fellowship and sportsmanship on display.
Quite the challenge was endured by Captain Mike, whose diligent oversight of the proceedings earned him a well-deserved merlot.
The ladies deserve commendation as well.
Janet, Drew, Lucy, and Lynne managed the kitchen with Wendy assisting as she ran the raffle.
The closely contested match ended jubilantly in Sidmouth's favour, thanks to the top rink comprising Julie Wevill, Chas Coates, Vincent Ferrante, and skip Alun Brown.
Their performance produced a stunning score of 30-3.
The day was also marked by the friendly presence of some familiar faces.
Martin was spotted with his visiting cousins from Bristol, adding to the atmosphere of the day.
Moving on to last Sunday morning, the Mens County Triples final of Section 3A was decided.
On their home ground, Scott Archer, Allan Davis, and skip Alun Brown, played extremely well.
The Sidmouth team competed against a seasoned trio from Madeira BC.
The game was a joy to watch, with the Sidmouth "boys" showcasing their commendable skill and sportsmanship.
Ken Roberts, Cliff Skinner, and skip Bill Davis put up a good fight, but the Sidmouth trio maintained a slight lead throughout, eventually closing the game with a score of 22-16.
This victory propels them into the last 16 in the entirety of Devon.
They have notably triumphed over opponents with an illustrious list of achievements in both County and National games.
Allan, Alun, and Keith have indeed done very well in the County Unbadged Triples, making it to the Section 3 semi-final after two successful round victories.
Their next match will be against either Seaton or Ottery St. Mary.
Best wishes extend to them as they prepare for their upcoming match.
There was also intensive action in the Ladies Major County 4'S Competition.
The Sidmouth team consisted of Karen Hollingdale, Anita Mason, Sue Turner, and skip Jane Painter, who played a strong team away at Ottery St Mary.
Following a draw on the final 18th end, an extra end was played and won.
They then advanced to the Section 3B final in Honiton but, unfortunately, met with defeat there.
In the County Senior Rinks Competition at Madeira, the same team gave their all against Madeira's finest.
On the 17th end, the teams were neck and neck with a score of 16 all.
However, Madeira tipped the balance on the crucial final 18th end.
Despite their losses, it is important to note how closely the Sidmouth squad contested in both competitions.
It could certainly have swung in their favour.
