With the completion of the Exeter League season, the Ottery St Mary Table Tennis Club held the finals of its Annual Club Championships at the Institute in Yonder Street.

Some very close and exciting matches ensued.

In the Open Singles, top-ranked Mark Burridge beat Sarah O'Leary in the first of the semi-finals, whilst in the second semi-final, Guillaume Gaston raised his game to beat Club Chairman Jeremy Broad.

The final resulted in an absorbing game with both Mark and Guillaume going for all out attack with Mark coming out on top 11-5, 12-14, 11-5, 12-10.

In the Handicap final, Mark Burridge was again successful overcoming  a tough 7 point handicap deficit to beat Julian Dale in a very tight match 11-8, 12-10, 4-11, 0-11, 11-8.

The Doubles final also featured Mark partnering Jon Newman, but the pairing of Sarah O'Leary and Paul Kirk proved too strong for them winning 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9.

Two of the club's promising juniors contested the Junior Singles finals with Benji Gaston, coached by his father Guillaume, overcoming the challenge from Toby Kirk winning 11-6, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6.

At the conclusion of the evening presentation of the prizes were made to the winners and the runners-up by Honorary Life Member, Ron Newman.

The club now returns to its summer sessions at the Institute on Thursday evenings preparing for the new league season which starts in September, when it is hoped that the Club will field six teams in the Exeter League, including a number of our up and coming juniors.
