Sidmouth Bowling Club had several friendly games this week, the first being a home ladies triples match against Honiton.

It was great to see several of our newer members participating, and winning.

All three rinks did very well, with two winning and the third unfortunately just losing on the final end.

Being 14-all on the 17th end on the final end, the triples of Lynn Pike, Janet Barton and skip Debbie Leeds dropped 5 shots!

The triple of Dawn Riddy, Deborah Robertson and skip Paddy Chew won 17 - 16.

The triple that had an outstanding win of 19 - 8 was Jean Brimson, Chris Radburn and skip Mary Meadows, which also gave Sidmouth an overall win at 50 shots to Honiton's 43. An excellent result .

Then came an away mixed friendly against Ottery St Mary. It was a lovely sunny afternoon spent with good company.

The game was very close overall, with Ottery the victors winning on two of the four rinks and drawing on a third.

The overall score was Sidmouth 60, Ottery 67, so pretty even for an away game.

However we did have one winning rink and that was Paul Stanton, Dawn Riddy, Steve Boyle and skip Ron Clint (17 - 14).

Finally, a friendly at home against Lyme Regis. This was 6 mixed triples.

An excellent afternoon played with some sunshine and some music courtesy of our Jazz Festival.

Sidmouth actually won on 4 of the 6 rinks but unfortunately lost overall.

However, it was a very friendly game and the score was Sidmouth 94, Lyme Regis 103.

Our top rink was Liz Boyle, Ron Clint and skip Keith Pollit (23 - 11). It was good to see Liz back bowling.

All County and National Competitions are now in full swing but neither our ladies nor our men have done very well so far,  either in individual or team entries.

There are still plenty of competitions left to play, so hopefully we will see some better results!

The member that has done very well so far is Ken Wheeler.

In the men's County Singles, Ken had three good wins against strong opposition, scoring 21-12,  21-15  and 21-11 to reach our Section 3 group B final.

In the final, Ken's opponent managed to master the rain and the heavy green much better than him, so that's it for another year.

Last year he won the same  competition final which sent him through to the last 16 in Devon.

Unfortunately, he was drawn against a much younger player who, as they do, ran up and down the green with every shot. I think Ken probably got tired watching, let alone following!
