Last week was Sidmouth Bowls' Presidents Day.
It was run over two sessions, morning and afternoon, then they all meet for lunch in between.
The lunch was amazing and once again prepared by Debbie, Lynn and captain Sue.
Our president John Mason, apart from the players, invited some of our 'old timers' who have done such a lot for our club in bygone years.
This is his second year as club president and it is usual to vote in a new president every year, however he did such a good job we decided to vote him in again.
Now the bowling, the morning winners were Scott Archer, Barbara and Alan Donaldson, and skip Zena Johnson with a great plus 14 score.
The afternoon winners were Joan Crook, Debbie and Cedron Caine, and skip Marie Timms with a plus five score.
Unusual to play partners together, but luckily there were no fights.
Mr Mason presented all the winners and helpers with a gift and it was really good to see so many congregate in the bar for a sociable few hours and finish some of that lovely food.
Then a couple of friendlies to finish the week.
The first being Sidmouth men away to Honiton men.
The fixture was for four triples, however when Sidmouth men arrived it appeared that Honiton were one triples short.
The Sidmouth men ended up playing three rinks (4's) against Honitons 3 triples, so everyone got a game.
Usually when you play this way, 25 per cent of the triples score is deducted.
However it was only a friendly and Sidmouth won without the deduction, 49 - 47.
Two rinks won well - they were Brian Deam, David Cockburn, Ron Clint and skip John Mason 21-11.
Also, Scott Archer, Derek Mountford, Ron Peppin and skip Clive Brook 21 - 12 .
The third rink was lost.
The next day, we should have sent three ladies triples to Honiton , but sadly could only manage two.
Those of us that made the effort had a great time and although losing on both rinks against some very strong Honiton Ladies, it was only by a few shots on each.
Lynn Pike, Deborah Robertson and skip Anita Mason 14 - 18.
Debbie Leeds, Sue Clint and skip Carol Smith 10 -14 .
These friendlies are the backbone of our local clubs.
It costs no more than a home game and mostly you get picked up at home, you meet different people and experience different greens to play on.
The final friendly of this indoor season was at home against Topsham.
A very friendly and very close game with Sidmouth winning on two of the three rinks, but just missing out on an overall win.
That was in Topshams favour being 46 - 44.
Our top rink was Jerome Hagen, Ron Peppin and skip Sue Clint 18 - 13.
I believe this was the first time Ms Clint has skipped a friendly, so well done to her and of course her team.
Our other winning rink was skipped by Ron Clint with the help of Scott Archer and Carol Timms - they won by just one shot 15 - 14 .
However on their final end they were holding three shots for an overall win, but it wasn't to be as the Topsham skip took the jack into the ditch for one - that's bowls!
