Sidmouth Town fell to a heartbreaking exit in the Devon Bowl Quarter Finals following a penalty shoot-out against North Devon Western League outfit, Ilfracombe Town.
Jacob O’Callaghan made a couple of terrific early saves for the Vikings, who woke from their slumber with Jack Drew-Cull firing narrowly over. As the game opened up, Louis Jagger Cane and Liam Carey both went close for Sidmouth, while O’Callaghan remained solid between the sticks.
Nathan Copper directed a deft effort narrowly wide to complete the first period and the Vikings were dominant after the break, with Ash Small causing havoc out wide. Cooper forced a brilliant save from the Ilfracombe ‘keeper, as Sidmouth, somehow, failed to make the breakthrough.
Ilfracombe were definitely the more relieved side to see the game taken to penalties and they used that momentum to pinch the game 3-2 in a dramatic shoot-out. Heartache for Sidmouth but a brilliant effort.
