The promotion of Plymouth Argyle to the Sky Bet Championship robbed Devon football fans of the spectacle of a derby clash between the Pilgrims and Exeter City, but the next generation served up a taste of the future on Saturday.
Argyle U18s lead the SW Youth Alliance, with the Grecians a few places behind, but Exeter took the glory on a cold morning at the Millenium pitches in Plymouth.
The Grecians grabbed the lead just before the half-hour, Pedro Broges prodding home from close range after an Exeter corner had caused mayhem in the Argyle defence but the hosts levelled immediately after the restart, Tegan Finn slotting a rebound for the Greens.
Both sides created chances in a frenetic second period and Exeter were the side to take theirs, Kieran Wilson firing into the bottom corner with just six minutes left on the clock.
