A stunning first half saw Sidmouth blow away their opponents, Cullompton Rangers, who currently sit four places above them in the South West Peninsula League.

The game was only five minutes old when Nathan Cooper put the Vikings ahead following a flick on by Louis Jagger Cane after the initial cross from Ryan Finnimore. Cooper cooly slotted home first time and delivered a swimming celebration as a bit of banter aimed at the Cully bench.

Jagge Cane twice went close to extending the lead but credit to Cullompton, who played a nice passing game, largely dealt with by the backline who were supported by returning ‘keeper Jacob O'Callaghan.

A neat interchange between Chim Chinnah and Jagger Cane would see the latter through on goal, but again, he was denied this time by a good stop from the Cully glovesman. In the 37th minute, Sidmouth finally had their second.

A Liam Carey cross was beautifully controlled by Chinnah, as he plucked the ball from the air before getting a yard and stroking the ball home. The Vikings weren't done there though, as the ref played a great advantage after a foul on Finnimore, which saw Cooper race through but he was denied by another good stop.

The game was killed off on the stroke of half time when Cooper clipped the ball down the line to Jagger Cane, who beat his full back before standing the ball up for Ashley Small to leapt the highest to head home.

Cully looked to step up the pressure early in the second half but failed to create any clear-cut chances. Sidmouth were always dangerous when they attacked but opted to control the ball more and suffocate the opposition. The Vikings did grab a fourth when another Carey set-piece was flicked on by Cooper to Tiernan West, who half volleyed the ball home from close range.

The Sidmouth Spar Man of the Match was awarded to Ryan Finnimore (Sponsored by Davies & Venn Decorators). The next fixture for Sidmouth sees The Vikings host the Hippos on Boxing Day as Honiton travel to Manstone Lane for an 11am kick off.

Sidmouth Town 2nds rounded off their 2023 football with a stunning 8-0 demolition of Clyst Valley. The scorers were Scott Hughes (2), Matt Salters (2), Jack Drew-Cull (2), Michal Bielawski and Corey Rogers
