In an exhilarating Under-14s rugby clash on Sunday, Sidmouth, playing at home, emerged victorious against a strong Exmouth side with a final score of 26-14.
Sidmouth managed to break through Exmouth's defence early on, scoring the first try of the match in the corner from Kallum Duman-Rattenbury, the tricky wide conversion in strong winds unfortunately missed.
As the first half progressed, Sidmouth's cohesive teamwork and strategic play allowed them to gain the upper hand. With some great rucking and capitalising on a number of turnovers from Seb Nation, Oscar Burston and Zac Dunstan it allowed Sidmouth to exploit gaps in Exmouth's defence with Kallum Duman Rattenbury adding another try before the halftime whistle, expertly converted by Sean Cload. The half concluded with Sidmouth leading 12-0.
Exmouth rallied to edge 12-14 ahead before the hosts scored again with a run through the middle, off the back of a maul by Will Creek, skilfully converted by Ewan Kirk.
In the closing minutes of the game, Sidmouth cemented the victory with a final try thanks to an amazing down-the-wing run from Casper Shields handing off and outstepping three players on his journey to score under the posts, again converted by Ewan Kirk.
