After three weeks of brutal weather and waterlogged courses, Sidmouth Golf Club ladies were able to play the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes competition, although the conditions were a ‘little wetter’ underfoot than the summer months, writes Vanessa Ireson.
We all struggled with the wet conditions but the weather was sunny and bright and Sheila Tallon and Gill Johnson returned to the clubhouse with a reasonable score of 31 points - despite losing a ball on the 18th in long grass.
And that is often the major challenge on a wet course, as even the straight shots can be plugged or hidden under a leaf.
Despite the endless searching for golf balls, Catherine Walden and Vanessa came in second place with 29 points.
We look forward to the oncoming festivities and hope the weather is kind for the fun competitions over the ensuing weeks.
