It has been an incredible weekend of football for Sidmouth Town.
While the first-team went down to an enthralling 5-4 loss at Axminster, the 2nds shared a marvellous 4-4 draw with high-flying Colyton in the Devon Premier Cup, with the Vikings progressing 3-1 on penalties.
Scott Hughes gave Sidmouth the lead and a Tom Nicholls header, from a delightful corner by Matt Salter, doubled the advantage. It got even better before half-time, Kyle Rogers providing the cross for Hughes to flick home a third.
Colyton, to their immense credit, came out flying after the break and hit the Vikings with three goals in 15 minutes to level the scores. The visitors then grabbed the lead on 75 minutes but Sidmouth had one last push, winning a penalty, which was converted by Salter.
Momentum stayed with the Vikings and two top spot-kick saves from Ryan Windsor was enough for a Sidmouth win.
