Sidmouth Seniors entertained Fingle Glen on a very wet day at Sidmouth earlier this month.
Captain Brian Rice and his partner Jonty Clews got things underway and had a very steady start leaving them 3 up after the front 9. They continued this steady play into the back 9 ending up winning 4 and 2.
The second pairing of Hugh Dorliac and David Hall had a very tight match which went right to the last hole where they won 1 up as did the third pairing of Phil Spencer and David Bromage
Mike Davis and David Cowler had a slightly easier time and were 2 up at the turn. Their good play continued, winning 3 and 2. Unfortunately, Len Wright and Vernon Ruffle came up against a strong pair from Fingle Glen and lost 5 and 4.
The final pair of Adrian White and Paul Blay had a wonderful front 9, especially due to Adrian’s superb play, and ran out 6 and 4, giving Sidmouth a 5-1 overall victory.
The Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Stableford saw newbies Owen Lane 43 and Nick Gidley 39 in the prizes. Steve Nunn split them up with a 40 for second place.
The annual running of the Aylmer Cup medal had Newton Poppleford’s Kevin Howe winning with nett 63 on countback from Steve Crabb. David Pepperell picked up third with 64.
The Upper Crust Bakery Monday Stableford division 1 winners were Chris Timms, first with 41, which gave him the seniors prize as well. Neil Holland 40 and Andrew Thomson 39 took the minor places. In Division 2, Ian Jones had the best round of his life (his words) to win with 40 points.
Susan Hackett, Ladies Captain congratulated Brian Rice, Seniors Captain, on their win over the ladies on September 13 by 6.5 to 3.5.
A lovely day was had by all. There were some very closely fought matches on the golf course - which is in a great condition at the moment. After match refreshments of cakes and beverages were provided by Coast to coast catering, which were enjoyed by everyone.
