It was another missed opportunity for points on the board for Sidmouth Town, as they went down to a 3-1 defeat at Teignmouth.
In a fast start, Jamie Vaughan-Ryall’s blocked shot fell to Ashley Small but he carelessly lashed over. Liam Carey then blazed the ball high into the Valley. It didn’t stop there as Carey delivered a delightful cross to Louis Jagger-Cane but his effort was well saved.
Teignmouth showed slick football though and nearly went ahead but a fantastic save from Zach Lee kept the score at 0-0.
However, there was no stopping Teignmouth’s Sean Ayre, who hammered an unstoppable volley into the top corner. In the 22nd minute, Teignmouth doubled their lead through Ayre as he beat Tiernan West in the air to make it 2-0.
West soon made impact on the Teignmouth goal when he pinched the ball in the middle of the park before crossing perfectly for Vaughan-Ryall who made no mistake in the box. Sidmouth were full of life again and Carey whipped another vicious ball across the box but Vaughan-Ryall connected too well and the chance went begging.
After the break, Jenkins forced a stunning save from the Teigns keeper. Jenkins then missed another big chance when he was on the end of a cutback but lifted his shot over the bar. It was all Sidmouth and it seemed it was a matter of when the equaliser would come, Jenkins again went close with a header which looked destined for the goal but it was hacked off the line!
The impressive Ashley Hudd continued to find great pockets of space and was denied again by the keeper with a great strike from the edge of the box. Nathan Cooper then found space in the box but his shot cannoned agonisingly back off the crossbar.
Against the run of play some weak defending saw Teignmouth break and Donaghue squared for Jack Baxter to tap in from a yard.
Thankfully, there was better news in midweek, as two Liam Carey penalties and goals from Nathan Cooper and Ashley Small gave Sidmouth a 4-2 win over Axminster.
