Tipton St John’s batting line up proved too strong for a youthful Whimple side.
The score was just 33 after 10 overs, but regular good partnerships ensured Tipton scoed 233-6. Phil Tolley reached 1,000 runs for the season, but was then run out for 80 when, as non-striker, the ball deflected from his bat and bowler on to the stumps.
Good contributions were made by John Buckland 45, Mark Burnard 20 and Mike Meech 38, although he was dropped three times.
After a steady start by Corne Botes with 20 and Jack Quin, Whimple started losing wickets regularly. Wickets with consecutive balls by Owen Smith started the decline, then Phil Wright and Mark Channon, with their first balls, had Whimple at 40-4.
Only Mark Greenough was able to offer resistance with an innings of 58 from 64 balls. He eventually fell caught and bowled by Buckland, who mopped up the tail by taking 4-21, as Whimple were all out for 149.
