Last week saw the return of Ladies Captains Day at Sidmouth Bowls Club.

This is normally Ladies Captain against Vice Captain however as the club has no vice captain it was Captain Jill Bishop's Blue team against Competition Secretary Brenda Somerfield's Pink team.

As is tradition the male committee members Roger, David, Ron and Jerome prepared and served tea after the game.

Another tradition is lady members that no longer bowl are also invited to tea, so 11 past players made the trip as well.

The bowling was good, the weather fine and there was lots of laughter.

But importantly. the final score was in Captain Jill's favour, 59 against Brenda's 47.

After the Captain's Day came a Mens Triples home fixture against Budleigh Salterton.

Just three triples were played and Sidmouth won 2 of the 3 rinks, with a total score of Sidmouth 53- Budleigh 47.

Next up at the weekend, Club President and Captain of the day John Mason took 4 triples away to play a friendly against Bradninch.

The game started well for the first few ends then disaster struck as the opposition scored a "Hot Shot" against them.

For those that are not familiar with this , in this case it means all 9 woods were scored by the opposition.

It is possible but not easy to claw back, which they were unable to do however on the bright side, Sidmouth won on 2 of the 4 rinks.

Finally on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon six triples went off to lovely Lyme Regis for a mixed friendly game.

Halfway through the game at teatime, Sidmouth were infront by 50 shots to Lyme's 34.

However as so very often happens it all changes after tea, with Lyme upping their game and winning overall 94 to Sidmouth's 85.

Sidmouth's top in this match was Lynn Flavell, Anita Mason and skip Wilf Radburn, with a great score of 21 - 10.
