The Men’s Jubilee Cup brought teams from Budleigh, Belmont, Seaton, Ottery St Mary and Lyme Regis to Sidmouth Bowls Club, writes Carol Smith.
For several years, Sidmouth has lost the Trophy to a visiting team, but not this time. Our winning rink of Brian Deam, Denis Griffiths, Jerome Hagen and skip John Mason triumphed with an amazing score of plus 22.
The prizes came from Lee Maddicks, Director of Redferns Estate Agents, who we sincerely thank for their ongoing sponsorship.
Last Sunday, Men’s Captain Roger took some 30 players to Clarence Bowls Club in Weston-super-Mare. They visited us last July and we won overall by just seven shots. On this occasion, we won overall by 16 shots. Our top rink was Brian Deam, Sue Clint, Janet Thomson and skip Mick Cox, 27 - 14.
Honiton BC hosted their mixed invitation game, the Harold Cotteral Cup, involving Feniton, Ottery, Madeira, Lyme Regis, Seaton and Sidmouth.
There was an unprecedented scoreline, with three teams on an equal shot differences of plus 12. On a countback, Honiton were eliminated, which left our Sidmouth team of Karen Hollingdale, Paul Irvine and Allan Davis equal with Feniton to share the trophy.
The Sidmouth trio of Brian Deam, Mick Cox and David Timms travelled to Feniton in the Section Final of the Men’s Unbadged County Triples Competition. After a slow start our trio pulled back to within two shots but eventually lost 12 - 17.
Sidmouth hosted the Ladies County Benevolent Triples and great to see 10 of our rinks being used in the opening round. The Sidmouth team of Wendy Cox, Deborah Robertson and Sue Clint just lost on their final end.
The team of Carol Timms, Janet Thomson and Sue Turner, having won their first round and leading most of the way in their second game, unfortunately just lost on the final two ends.
Our trio of Karen Hollingdale, Anita Mason and Jane Painter, in their first round, the opposition conceded halfway through, as they were unable to play a second game. They went on to win their next three matches to put them into Section 3 Final, which will be played against a Seaton team on our green soon!
