Sidmouth Bowls Club entertained a touring team from Woodley in Reading, a great crowd, who stayed at one of our seafront hotels. They absolutely loved our town and the stunning setting of our bowls club.
At tea, Sidmouth led 50 - 42 and went on to win on six of the seven rinks. The final score was Sidmouth 115 Woodley 97. We had two top rinks, both winning by plus 13. They were Brian Deam, , Malcolm Smith, Mary Meadows and skip Janet Thomson, and Liz Boyle, Derek Mountford, Barbara Donaldson and skip Christopher Ward.
Sidmouth Ladies InterClub travelled to Starcross for a quarter-final against Torbay Country Club but sadly lost on both rinks.
We struggled in a 4 triples friendly at home to Budleigh, losing three of the four rinks. Our only winning rink was Sue Clint, Scott Archer and, once again, skip Christopher Ward, 21 - 10.
Next came Seaton and a much better result, with Sidmouth winning on all three rinks and the overall score being Sidmouth 59 Seaton 30. Our top rink was Bob Underhill, Chris Radburn, Barbara Donaldson and skip Mike Borst, 23 - 10.
Three Sidmouth men are through to Section 3 final of the County Unbadged Triples. The semi-final was played on our green and what a close call. One shot on the penultimate end gave them hope and great play from skip David Timms on the final end gave his team of Brian Deam and Mick Cox a place in the final against Feniton.
There was another good result for Sidmouth men playing the County Trophy League at home against Honiton. This Competition is now all 4 rinks playing either home or away, a format that really makes more sense, as you can see how all rinks are doing, rather than having to ring home or, as the case may be, away.
They won on two rinks, lost on the other two, but kept the losses to a minimum to win overall, 82 - 67. A great result, banking 12 of the available 16 points.
