Captains Day at Sidmouth Golf Club featured a huge field of 176 players competing in a better ball stableford competition with additional bonus power point flags on six holes.
That, added to the four drink stations and fresh pizza available on the course, plus live music in the evening from Conscious Club and Bespoke Discos, made for an unforgettable day thanks, to the great efforts and generosity from club captain John Jones and his sponsors.
Winners of the stableford were Graham Bess and Richard Trim, posting an excellent 52 points from John Jones and Lewis White who, giving no shots to the course, missed out by just one point with 51.
In the evening, a charity auction added to the magnificent total for the day of £6,850 towards the captain's charities.
John was not finished though as he and two other low handicappers, Lewis White and David Bater, achieved an incredible 100 holes of golf in one day on Tuesday at the Sidmouth course.
Starting at 4:50am, they ploughed through three rounds before taking a break! That left another 46 holes, which they finished at 6:45 in the evening. They hit 1170 shots between them over the 100 holes, a magnificent effort from all three. This raised a further £1,564 towards John's charity fund, of which Devon Air Ambulance Trust is a beneficiary.
Recent club results saw Ben Hodgson take top spot in the Upper Crust Monday stableford with 41, ahead of Steve Channings on 40 with Harrison Jones in third with 39 The Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Stableford saw Harrison Jones improve and win with 41 points. Paddy Tallon 39 and Steve Crabb 38 took the minor places.
It was a lovely day for the ladies fun competition played on June 21, the longest day. The format was ‘odds and evens’ - an individual Stableford competition where each individual in the pair doubled their score either on the odds or evens holes.
The winner of the front nine was Marian Andrews with a great 31 points. Vanessa Ireson was the back nine winner with 33 points. Yvonne Anning was the overall winner with a fantastic 59 points. Bottles of wine were given to the winners by Lady Captain Susan Hackett.
