The Sidmouth Seniors finally got their season going, travelling away to Yeovil after their first two matches were lost to rain.
New seniors Captain Brian Rice and David Hall had a good match, only to be pegged back and lose on the last. Hugh Dorliac and Colin Paddon came up against a strong pairing, quickly going behind and finally losing 4 & 3.
Mike Davis and James Scrimshaw, despite being 4 up after 13, could only hold out for a half in the end. Steve Nunn and Ray Gunston played well together, going 3 up after 9, eventually winning comfortably 5 & 3. The other two pairings each lost by one, giving a final result of Yeovil 4.5 to Sidmouth's 1.5.
The Sidmouth jewellers Friday stableford saw James Winchester win on countback from Anthony Griffiths with 42 points. Sanju Patidar took third with a solid 40. This was just a warm up it seems, as Sanju, Tiku and Jash Patidar won the George Meadows Trophy competition on Saturday with an excellent team score of 83.
Anthony Griffiths too was having a good weekend, coming second with son Archie and Fionn Wardrop posting 80. Chris and Paul Lewis, with Richard Powell, took third with 78.
The Upper Crust sponsored Monday stableford, Division 1 winners were Graham Davies 40, Nick Gingell 38 and Kym White 38. Division 2 winner was Joe Norris on 43, ahead of Russell Bess 37 and Neil Hodge
There were a small field of ladies who braved the rather wet drizzly conditions for the Orr Cup competition. Marie Timms was not to be deterred and came first with a very respectable 36 points. Ros Eaton finished second with 29.
The winners of the Rose Bowl and Basket competitions have now been announced after only 4 of the 6 matches taking place due to poor weather or course closure.
Liz Chance is the winner of the Rose Bowl this year with Gerri Whitrow as runner-up. The Rose Basket winner is Gill Johnson with runner-up Mo Kendall.
The qualifying competitions are now in place for the new season, so it will be interesting to watch the handicap rise and falls for the year. Happy golfing to all for the drier and warmer seasons!
