Sidmouth Bowls Club started a week of friendly fixtures with the Devon Vice President Association’s annual visit.
This consisted of teams from three different Devon clubs (Honiton, Madeira and Westward Ho!) to play against Sidmouth men.
Catering guru Debbie Leeds, with the help of Lynn Pike, did the club proud with an amazing tea of sausage rolls, pork pies, scotch eggs, homemade scones and cakes.
Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and, although Sidmouth won on two of the three rinks, the game was lost overall by 53 - 58. Top home rink was Ron Clint, Ron Peppin and skip Don Smith, 20 - 14.
Then came a mixed team from Taunton’s Vivary Park. Once again, a good friendly afternoon, well maybe not too ‘friendly’ as the final score was Sidmouth 65 Vivary Park 28.
Sidmouth won on all three rinks. The top rink comprised Mary Meadows, Sue Clint, Clive Brook and skip John Chew, 25 - 5. It was also good to see one of the newer members playing his first (we hope of many) game. Your first game against other clubs is always a bit daunting, but once you get over that, it's great. So well done to David Parsons, also for contributing to his rink winning 21 - 10
The last friendly of the week was against Chardstock at home. Chardstock only have an outdoor green, so spend most of the winter travelling to other Devon indoor clubs. This is to keep their hand in and also to keep in contact with, not just their own members, but also players from other clubs.
All three Sidmouth rinks won and by pretty good margins, the overall score being Sidmouth 68 Chardstock 29.
Tomorrow, April 1, is the ‘Taster Day’ at Sidmouth Bowls Club. It's being held from 11am - 1pm and then from 2pm - 4pm. Come and have a free go with one of our experienced coaches for half an hour on our indoor green.
If you like it, you can sign up for some coaching sessions with no obligations. Just bring some flat shoes or trainers with you, bowls will be supplied.
