No team can win every game but, please forgive the cliché, the fun of playing sport often means a lot more than the final results, especially at grassroots level, or in this case, mudroots.
Sidmouth RFC Women, the Valkyries, made the brutally long trip to Helston in the deepest corner of Cornwall with the weather rotten in every way, and playing a home side looking to win promotion.
Helston have been superb all season and played some great rugby in their 33-5 but the spirit of the Valkyries was exceptional throughout, with Hannah Rugg the try scorer.
Valkyries captain Sas Huntwood said: “So proud of the team today. Their defensive attitude was phenomenal. What I am most proud of is that they go out to play rugby.
Their smiles at the end of the game showed what a team they are. That they enjoy it every time they take to the park.”
