Sidmouth Town 2nds continue to push forward in the Devon & Exeter League, as they got another win under their belts, defeating Colyton 3-2 to move up to sixth in the Premier Division.
The Vikings started well on a weekend that saw a few postponements in the League, and were the better team, playing some great football in tricky conditions.
It soon paid off with Ferenc Bodor finding space outside the box and he took on an ambitious shot. The Colyton goalkeeper made a super saved from the initial effort but ball went straight back to Bodor, who slotted it home for a deserved lead.
Nine minutes later, Sidmouth doubled their lead thanks to a fantastic cross from Marius Pislary, with George Gelling in the right place to send a thumping header beyond the visiting custodian. The Vikings were excellent all over the park, controlling the engine room to hold their 2-0 lead until the break.
Colyton responded in the second half and took advantage of some slack Sidmouth marking to halve the deficit. Sidmouth raised their game after that and once again matched the visitors. Then, on the 63rd minute, more great play from Pislary saw him deliver another fine cross for Gelling to convert.
A super game of football continued and Colyton, to their credit, kept on fighting. The visitors won a penalty but a brilliant save from Ryan Windsor was another highlight for Sidmouth. Colyton did grab a late consolation but the Vikings deserved their win, with Gelling awarded man of the match.
Sidmouth Town first-team continued their sparkling form with another fantastic victory in the South-West Peninsula League, their seventh in a row to move the Vikings up to seventh.
Travelling to Ivybridge Town, who have been in the top five virtually all season, is always a tough challenge, but the Vikings were once again imperious.
Will Jenkins opened the scoring with a 25-yard stunner into the top corner, as Sidmouth dominated their hosts for long periods of the game and confirmed the with goals from Louis Jagger Cane and talented youngster Jack Drew-Cull.
