Exeter City’s Under-18s Lead Coach, Tom Donati, acknowledged Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Southend United U18s was a "great experience" but admitted his players returned home ‘deflated’ after conceding a late leveller.
“Overall, it was a great experience for the boys. We had a long few days away, but we started brightly, looked to play on the front foot, pressed well, and scored early on. We scored a well-worked second goal, and were in the ascendency. We looked vibrant and energetic, and could’ve been out of sight.
“The boys have come away deflated. Southend became more aggressive in the second half, and we didn’t move the ball as well, but we still created three clear-cut chances. Ultimately though, conceding a set-piece goal has cost us. It was a long couple of days, but it is all a part of their learning process.”
Alfie Cunningham and Santino Ohanaka scored the City goals.
