In their first year of Cup match experience, the Sidmouth Rugby U14 squad have made it to the Devon Cup final, which will be played on March 26. They will play Ivybridge U14s at Ivybridge RFC with a scheduled KO of 11am.
What’s even more amazing is that this group of talented junior rugby players and coaching team only came together this season when the U14s recruited 11 new players and three additional new coaches.
After a simple walkover in the preliminary round Vs Teignmouth the U14s went on to achieve a win over Cullumpton (14-12) in October, securing themselves a place in the quarter finals.
The quarter final match versus Paignton in January demonstrated the force of this squad with a 51-nil win being called after 35 minutes game time, leading into a much tighter semi-final match versus Torquay on February 26. A fast and equally balanced match saw the team secure a 17-15 win in that semi-final!
The big question now is whether the U14s can win the final versus Ivybridge. The U14s would welcome as much support as possible on the day and whatever the outcome, Sidmouth RFC are immensely proud of their achievement.
