Goals from Louis Jagger Cane and Tiernan West made it three wins on the spin for the Vikings as they came back from their third long away day in a row with maximum points.
Dartmouth, although sitting 11th table were on a horrid run of form and Sidmouth knew there was a good chance of extending the unbeaten run. A fast start saw the Vikings test Dartmouth ‘keeper Conor Smith twice in the opening three minutes.
Firstly, it was West who forced Smith into a stop after he reacted quickest to Nathan Cooper's shot. Then, a mazy run from Liam Carey saw him tee up Cane and he forced Smith into a routine save. With 11 minutes on the clock, Smith was forced into another save as Luka Nickles burst down the right before crossing to Carey who flicked onto Cane but his tame effort was stopped.
It took 26 minutes for Dartmouth to threaten the Vikings goal and it came after a slick passing move started and ended by Robbie Bowker, but Bowker could only drag his shot wide of Ashley Smith's goal.
Sidmouth continued to probe and got a breakthrough in the 40th minute when Jamie Fanson played the ball up to Nickles, who pinned his man before releasing Cane. He outpaced his defender and then clipped it over the ‘keeper before tapping home.
Four minutes later, the lead was doubled when Carey delivered the perfect cross for West to head home at the back post. It should have been 3-0 on the stroke of half time when West and Cane combined but the latter saw his effort go the wrong side of the upright.
Just one minute into the second half, Cane broke down the left and delivered a tempting ball to Tom Bray whose outstretched toe couldn't poke it home. On the hour mark, it looked like Liam Carey had scored a great goal after linking with Cane but he ballooned his effort high and wide after another mazy run.
Nathan Cooper was orchestrating the attacks from the centre back with his long-range passing and he again found Cane breaking down the left, who cleverly cut the ball back to Carey but this time his effort was well saved.
In the 72nd minute, it should have been 3-0 but Jamie Vaughan-Ryall couldn't get enough contact on the cut back from Cane who again was causing problems. Cane had been a constant thorn in the Dartmouth back line and he found himself through again in the 86th minute but this time Smith was on hand to make a good save.
Dartmouth rarely troubled Ashley Smith in the Sidmouth goal for 90 minutes but he made a stunning save in stoppage time to keep his second clean sheet in his second appearance when he dived high to his left to keep out Ryan O'Callaghan's goal bound header.
A 2-0 victory ensured Sidmouth stayed in 9th position going into Saturday's match away against Cullompton. The Sidmouth Spar 1st Team Man of the Match was awarded to Tiernan West for a colossal performance in the middle of the park, which he capped with a goal.
Sidmouth 2nds produced a wonderful attacking display to win 12-3 at Okehampton Argyle in the Devon & Exeter League. After conceding early, Damien Lee Armes levelled with a superb free-kick and Jack Drew-Cull gave his side the lead
Jack Howe scored from a corner but the Okes stayed in the game Armes and Drew-Cull hit the target again but the half-time score was 3-5. After the break, Sidmouth ran riot.
Drew-Cull completed his hat-trick with a solo effort, George Gelling made it 8-3 and it was then three goals in the space of 10 minutes from Jack Miller, an own goal and Ewan Anderson.
Just before the final whistle, Gelling earned a great hat-trick to make the final score 12-3, and he picked up man of the match.
