It has been a fortnight of mixed fortunes for Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club, starting with a full roster of fixtures fulfilled two weeks ago.
Following on from a weekend when all but one of the fixtures were postponed due to frozen pitches, club members were eager to be playing again. The men’s first team travelled to Mendip 1 but came away with no league points after a 4-0 defeat.
The second team fared better with a 3-0 home win against Tiverton 1. Also playing at home, while the third team lost 0-2 to North Devon, the side turned in a good performance in what has been a difficult season. The fourth team development side took on Isca 6 and achieved a 0-0 draw.
On the women’s side of the club, the first team travelled to White Eagles 1 and came away with a point from a 3-3 draw. Also playing away, the second team beat Burnham on Sea 1, achieving a solid win, beating the home team 1-5.
The third team also claimed all the points in a home fixture against Chard 2, winning 2-1, and the fourth team development side achieved a goalless draw away at Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets.
Last weekend, the ladies first team led the way by claiming a home win over Gillingham 1, 2-1. The result turned out to be only one of two wins across the club , with the ladies’ fourth team development side also claiming victory. In their case, it was a 1-0 home win against Chard 2.
The ladies’ seconds and thirds both went down to defeat against sides from Exe. The seconds lost 0-2 in a home game against Exe 3 while the third team lost 2-1 away against Exe 5.
On the men’s side of the club, the first team was the only side to gain any points with a 1-1 draw at home against Westbury and United Banks 1.
The second team travelled to take on Taunton Vale 3 in Somerset but lost 3-0. The third team also had a long away trip, travelling down to Plymouth to play Old Plymothian and Mannamedians and they also came away empty-handed, losing 11-1. The fourth team’s match was cancelled, with player availability being a challenge again.
