Plenty of anglers are fishing at Newbarn Angling centre over the variety of pools and Lily Pool has started to produce Tench, Bream Perch and plenty of Small Rudd.

Willow Pool is producing plenty of Carp into low double figures, mostly to surface bait in the evenings. Island Pool has fished well for regular Ian Heron, who fished with a pole and his own flavoured pellets landing several nice Bream up to about 4lbds.

The evenings are also the most productive time on Mirror Lake for the larger Carp, again on floating baits, although on cooler overcast days, boillies will produce.

For the occasional sea angler, Mackerel can be caught all around the South Devon coast, although on dome days, they can be hard to find. It is worth trying a bit of LRF fishing around the rocks at Brixham Breakwater with small lures or tiny pieces of ragworm fished on a drop shot rig for mini species, such as Gobies, Blennies and Corkwing Wrasse.

The estuaries are still producing fish, as both Tony Phillips and Harley Heyward found. Harley targeted Gilthead Bream with live Prawn and had to make do with several nice Thornback Rays instead, I don’t think he was too upset. Tony, on the other hand found the Giltheads, along with Flounders and Mullet. Paul Salmon of Honiton SAC continues to catch this week a nice Plaice from one of our shingle beaches.

Charter boats are still finding Pollack and Bass on the wrecks and Plaice and Rays on the banks with Stephen Galdies fishing from a private boat and landing his first Black Bream estimated at over 2lbs. Tom Travers of Honiton SAC landed one of the biggest Mackerel of the season so far.

Fishing is good at the moment, so if you fancy giving it a try, contact a fishery for advice or visit a local tackle shop where they will point you in the right direction.

There is still time to get your catch in for the fish of the month competition kindly sponsored by Sidewinder Lures and Nerwbarn Angling Centre. Email your reports to johnsherlockfish@gmail.com
