November’s Fish of the Month has been awarded to a junior angler for the first time, congratulations to Adam Egan.
Adam braved the wintry conditions at Upham Farm, fishing with his father for five hours. He used a pole baited with a flavoured pellet and landed a 7lbs 8oz Common Carp, his first on a pole, after a 15-minute battle. A voucher for two-day tickets at Newbarn Angling is on its way.
The big competition last weekend was the National flounder competition held over two days on the River Teign. The winner taking the trophy and £1250 cash was Adam Jones with a fish just a shade over 2lbs. The two daily prizes were taken by Jason Cityzen and Phil Marshal, both fish only weighed about an ounce below the winner.
The organisers, Teignmouth SAC would like to thank all sponsors of the event and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
Flounders feature in catches again this week with Honiton SAC holding the first day of their two-day Flounder competition, sadly only one fish was recorded this was by Si Trim and weighed in at 12lb.
Scott Harris, fishing for pleasure managed to find two fish the biggest weighing 2lbs 7oz. Some larger Whiting are now being found, with Exmouth’s Alex Webb to heading Chesil beach and finding several of these voracious feeders exceeding 1lb in weight.
On the boats, pick of the fish was a 19lbs Blonde Ray falling to the rod of Bryz Auger. Stuart Pike has been targeting squid with some success aboard his charter boat Orca out of Beer but the best I’ve seen this winter is a fish of 3lbs 13oz landed by Shaun Miller.
Congratulations to Exmouth SAC, who are celebrating their centenary this year. They have a good membership and hold regular competitions, as well as a monthly league. The result of their November Bass bonanza was a win for Pete Clarke with a winning percentage of 160.94% for his two fish, the runner up was Grant Morris.
