TV chef James Martin has shared his secret to weight loss, revealing that he eats fish twice a day.

The popular chef, and star of ITV’s Saturday Morning, said switching to the fish heavy diet was the significant change that led to his three-stone weight loss.

He said: “What could be simpler than pan-frying a little bit of salmon and serving it with some great new potatoes and seasonal veg?”

Adding: “Losing weight is a balance of everything, it is getting off your arse and moving more and not eating less, but eating a variety of different things,” Hello Magazine reports.

James went on to say: “Water is the key. As you get older, I realised I don’t need to go to the gym, I’m working all the time anyway.

“Water keeps your brain healthy and it keeps your skin healthy and it keeps you focused it is crazy when you give up soft drinks how much more your brain feels live, it is very weird.”

And the switch to fish is not the only recommendation James Martin has for those looking to lose weight and keep it off.

The TV chef has previously revealed that he keeps the weight off by making a few key changes to his lifestyle.

"I no longer stuff my face with really bad things such as takeaway pizza, Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks, which I used to have tons of during my working day, just like almost every other chef in the country," Martin previously told the Herald.

He swapped out the quick treats for healthier foods including by bringing fresh fish into his diet twice a week alongside plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The low- fat high-quality protein is high in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins such as D and B2 (riboflavin).

The protein content in fish keeps you fuller for longer.

Not to mention that the omega-3 fatty acids speed up your metabolism which means you'll burn more calories.

James Martin also noted: "We might admire the Mediterranean diet but we don't eat the way the French, Spanish or Italians eat.

"On holiday, we insist on going to restaurants that serve the full British breakfast, and at home we just slather on the butter and eat far too many processed foods."

The revelation follows the TV chef calling for the ban of margarine, even describing it as  “two elements away from plastic”.

In an interview with The Sunday Post, he said: “Margarine should be banned. It’s dreadful, dreadful stuff, it’s two elements away from plastic, it’s horrendous stuff.

“It’s the ready-made food, it’s the packet food, the hidden salt, hidden fat. That’s the problem in this country.

"It's not the butter in a butter block or butter you put on your toast. It's the fact that not as many people cook in the UK as they do in France or Italy or Spain.”

James also adds that he prefers the “full-fat” stuff, he said: "We’ve always had full-fat milk, butter and cream. And that’s what we had. There wasn’t such a thing as semi-skimmed milk in our house."
