Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) is inviting their supporters to help kit out the lifesaving crew with the new specialist uniforms on their ‘Christmas Wish List’.
As a charity that receives no government funding, the service is made possible entirely thanks to the kind donations of its supporters.
For 365 days of the year, the DAA crew face unpredictable and incredibly challenging situations.
In 2023 the service was called to attend 2226 incidents relating to critical illness or injury.
Focusing on responding and reaching their patient to deliver time critical care as quickly as possible, it is vital they have the kit that keeps them safe and adaptable whilst doing so.
Specialist equipment is essential.
The new flight suits are made from advanced, stretchy, and lightweight materials, offering flexibility and protection in any weather.
Enhanced thermal properties help maintain stable body temperatures, keeping the crew warm and dry as they navigate Devon’s challenging landscapes.
These suits are also more durable, built to withstand the rigors of flight and reduce wear and tear over time.
Cat Hawkins, operations manager for Devon Air Ambulance said: "With a standard shift of 10 hours, though often well beyond this, a hardworking, resilient flight suit and footwear that is functional, lightweight, and comfortable is essential so that our crew are dressed to save lives.
"But this doesn’t come cheap. A pair of kneepads cost around £16, flight suit trousers £265 and flight suit jackets £340 for each crew member.
"It’s thanks to our kind and generous supporters that our lifesaving team continues to deliver expert time-critical care we really couldn't continue to respond without you.’
"Wearing specialist kit will help the air ambulance crews to be prepared for every kind of mission, including multi-service incidents like the road traffic collision that DAA’s former patient Sam faced in spring 2024."
By helping Devon Air Ambulance to kit out their crew with new uniforms this Christmas, your gift could help to save lives.
