An eco-friendly holiday cottage business has installed a Tesla Powerwall 2 as part of its commitment to renewable energy.
Mazzard Farm, located in East Devon, has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism, continuously integrating renewable energy to reduce its environmental impact and offer guests an eco-friendly stay.
The Tesla Powerwall 2 was co-funded by the East Devon District Council’s Culture, Leisure, and Tourism Fund.
It allows the farm to store excess solar energy generated during the day for use when it is needed.
Owner of Mazzard Farm, Ruud Jansen Venneboer, said: "Adding a Powerwall to our systems has been a long-held wish, simply because as a holiday business, the times we generate most solar energy, our guests tend to be out and about.
"So, storing it in the Powerwall allows that energy to be used in the evenings, when it is most needed.
"In the main holiday season, we’re hoping that this will make us 100 per cent self-sufficient."
Mazzard Farm’s renewable energy journey started in 2012, in partnership with SunGift Solar, with the installation of a rooftop solar PV system.
Since then, they have added a biomass heating system in 2013, a second roof-mounted solar PV system in 2022, and an electric vehicle charging point.
Each addition is a reflection of Mazzard Farm’s dedication to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Gabriel Wondrausch, founder of SunGift Solar, added: "As a company dedicated to sustainable and renewable energy solutions, it has been a privilege to work with Mazzard Farm on their sustainability journey.
"Seeing their ongoing commitment to energy efficiency through our various installations over the years reflects the high standards Mazzard Farm sets for their environmental responsibility."
Mazzard Farm’s continued investments in sustainable energy are part of a larger trend among hospitality providers moving toward greener practices.
SunGift Solar, a leading renewable energy provider specialising in solar PV systems and energy storage solutions, has been a trusted partner for Mazzard Farm from the start, supporting their efforts toward energy independence and long-term sustainability.
They support tourism businesses across the UK in reducing energy costs through solar PV system installations.
Previous collaborators include Ladram Bay and Brean Leisure Park, with Mazzard Farm being the latest addition to their tourism collection.
By switching to solar, these businesses have reduced their reliance on the grid, lowered their energy bills, and supported their sustainability goals.
