A POPULAR pub in Devon has suddenly closed for business, citing ‘significant challenges’.
The Otter Inn at Colaton Raleigh, near Sidmouth, is a rural pub offering homecooked food, including Sunday lunch and stone-baked pizzas.
But its publicans took the decision to close the business on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
In a post on Facebook, publicans of The Otter Inn said they had “faced significant challenges that have led to this difficult decision.”
“Factors such as rising energy costs, increased business rates, and the broader economic climate have made it increasingly difficult for establishments like ours to sustain operations.”
Recent reports indicate that 239 pubs in England and Wales closed during the first quarter of 2024.
The publicans added: “We deeply apologize for the suddenness of this announcement and any inconvenience it may cause. Serving you has been an absolute pleasure, and we cherish the memories we’ve created together.”
