ANOTHER large cliff fall, this time at the Harbour and Esplanade end of Sidmouth happened at around 3.15pm on Wednesday (November 20).

Thanks to Clare Luke, for letting the Sidmouth Herald use her picture of the cliff fall. She posted it in Sidmouth Community for the People Facebook page.

Stuart Hughes, Sid Valley Councillor and Devon County Councillor for Roads and Transport said: "One of many we’re going to see this winter…. Stay off the beach and stay safe."

Malcolm Couldwell said that 'by the time the flood defences are complete it will be too late, the cliffs will be gone.'

On the post, lots of people commented.

Briony James said: "And of course it's just coincidence that the rate of increase in cliff falls along East Beach is since the rock islands were introduced.

"And East Beach itself was also an actual usable and walkable beach until the same time.

"Just a coincidence though of course."

Geoff Batten said: "Those cliffs have been eroding since before i first went to the area 70 years ago. They were eroding when Mary found the big fossils in i think the 1800s. It is news, but not shocking news-- it is a note of what nature is doin and has been since the limestone cliffs rose out of the sea."

This comes after a flurry of cliff falls at Sidmouth over the past few weeks. One happened at the start of November, and took out with it most of the South West Coast Path. It has now been diverted around Peak Hill.

At the time, Beer Coastguard were called out to check for anyone injured in the cliff fall, and to set up a diversion.

Sidmouth lifeboat was requested to do a shoreline search to check for any persons stranded on the beach or cliff fall.

The area Coastguard drone team and Area commander were also on route.

The first in October happened again around Jacob's Ladder.
