A singer-songwriter is set to perform in Newton Poppleford.

On December 6, Paul Oxley will be giving an unplugged concert in the village hall in Newton Poppleford.

While Paul may be relatively unknown in the UK, he is well known in Finland, where he has released nine successful albums, including several number ones.

For over 40 years, he and his band, Paul Oxley's Unit, have been fixtures on television, at festivals, and in arenas, sharing stages with U2, Toto, The Undertones, Deep Purple, and others.

The band held their final sold-out concert in November 2019.

Paul, originally from Manchester, moved back to Sidmouth, his second home outside Finland, and is now performing more intimate acoustic sets for audiences in the UK.

He once lived in Newton Poppleford, which inspired him to kick-start the upcoming UK tour.

The set will mainly include his songs, with a few select covers.

His musical influences range from Bert Jansch, Simon & Garfunkel, Al Stewart, The Beatles, Bowie, 10cc, Kate Bush, and The Beach Boys, to more contemporary artists like Aurora Aksnes, Phoebe Bridgers, Imogen Heap, and others.

When asked to describe his own music, Paul says it's 'Newton Pop', which could potentially become a new genre.

He will be performing with Oscar B Hammond, his old friend and original keyboard player with Paul Oxley's Unit.
