A VOLUNTEER group has come together at a time when people in Sidmouth need that extra helping hand.

Sidmouth Voluntary Services helps to combat loneliness and isolation for elderly and vulnerable adults living within the Sid Valley by providing a Lunch Club, Supermarket Shopping, Social Outings and transport to Medical Appointments.

The volunteer service has three minibuses driven and assisted by volunteers.

The volunteer group also delivers lunches and assists people in getting to medical appointments.

This is all done by the massive help from volunteers - who provide transport using their own cars.

One of the group's minibus assistants has shared her story.

Ann from Sidmouth Voluntary Services said: "Firstly, I must talk about why I volunteer.

"It makes me feel useful and I really enjoy being with people…and it keeps me out of mischief. I was at a loose end and volunteer work is an excellent way to fill my time.

"I get so much from volunteering. I help on the community transport minibus that picks up elderly clients and brings them into our café at Twyford House to have lunch.

"The minibus also takes them to local supermarkets for food shopping. I have learnt so much by volunteering, the most important being patience.

"There is also so much to learn from older people and all the clients and staff that I meet are all so friendly.

"I have also found many new places in the town as we go around on the bus.
Helping with community transport is so worthwhile.

"It makes me feel good, makes me feel useful and I really enjoy it. I have never looked back."
