Sidmouth Library will host a family Halloween storytelling session.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 10.30 to 11.30am.
Experienced storyteller Janet Dowling, who has been telling tales for more than 20 years, will lead the session.
She said: "Scary stories are good for children to hear.
"It gives them the chance to feel fear and begin to learn how to deal with it, so that next time they experience fear in real life they are better prepared and don't have panic attacks.
"But don't worry - all the stories will be gentle scary ones suitable for 6-10s."
Sidmouth Library supervisor, Hannah, said: "We always enjoy having storytellers at the library.
"The children enjoy listening to the language and the interactive parts, it encourages them to try their voices."
The children will also have the opportunity to make their own ghost stories.
Ms Dowling said: "There will be some screams and some jumps, but the listeners will also have a chance to make their own ghost stories - and that's the best."
The session will take place in the children's library, with a suggested donation of £2 per family.
All proceeds will go to supporting Libraries Unlimited, the charity that runs all the libraries in Devon and Torbay.
