A Sidmouth care home is set to host a monthly carer support group.

Malden House, part of the Hartford Care group, will open its doors every third Wednesday of the month to welcome carers.

The first session is scheduled for October 16 at 11am.

The group is open to all carers and the people they care for, free of charge.

It offers a chance for carers to take a break and focus on their own wellbeing.

It also provides a platform to share experiences, information, and advice, as well as a safe, confidential space to speak freely.

Tabitha Donovan, home manager at Malden House, said: "Our philosophy at Hartford Care is 'creating caring communities'; this doesn’t just mean the communities inside our care homes, it applies to our local areas, our neighbours, residents’ family and friends and beyond.

"While caring for a loved one can be very rewarding, we understand how it can feel isolating, so we look forward to welcoming our local carers in a supportive, informal space where you can connect with others who understand your experiences."

Malden House, a care home dating back to 1820, has recently undergone several improvements, including the installation of solar panels, redecoration of communal areas, and new artwork.

The home, rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), has also opened a new ten-bedroom extension.

The extension features modern interiors, en suite wet rooms, two new residents’ lounges, dining areas, and a salon.

The care home offers residential care, day care, dementia care, respite breaks, and end-of-life care.

The grounds of Malden House are fully wheelchair accessible and include a sensory garden and summer house.
